1924 - 2010
A Wyoming native, Mel Fillerup moved to Cody
in 1952 to start his own law practice after
graduating law school from the University
of Wyoming. Mel painted in his spare time
while practicing law until 1975. With the blessing of his wife Ruth, Mel left this early career to pursue full time his dream of painting the land he loved so well - Wyoming. Mel's painterly oils and sensitive watercolors have been acquired by collectors around the world and are highly prized.
Mel's artwork has been featured in Southwest
Art magazine, American Artist
magazine,
the Buffalo Bill Art Show, and the Audubon
Wildlife Art Show, just to name a few. Mel was also a signature member of the American Indian
and Cowboy Artists, as well as the Cody Country
Art League.
Mel Fillerup passed away July 2, 2010. Mel was one of the first artists ever represented by the Big Horn Galleries - a friend of almost 30 years in the business. It is with sadness that we bid Mel farewell, but thank him for the legacy of his art.
