MORT SOLBERG
"Every painting should have an emotional experience, however it is communicated - by color, composition or subject. My objective is to create an illusion of emotion that will transport the viewer into the world I have created." - Mort Solberg

Solberg adds, "To paint what you see is one thing but to feel what you see and to be able to paint that impression is something else again." The artist has created a distinctive, timeless style by contrasting loose and flowing forms with sharp edges and tight definition. His interest in art began early and he pursued it through the years at the West Technical High School and the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Following graduation, Solberg entered the world of commercial art, first working at an art studio, then for American Greetings. He was content to work successfully in that field until a job as art director for another card copy brought him west. There he was inspired to explore photography, eventually returning to painting with a new point of view and a vital new approach. The result has been art that has been lauded across the continent. His paintings are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art and the American Bicentennial Gallery, among others. His honors include a purchase award from the National Watercolor Society’s top award, and an award of merit from the Society of Animal Artists. Solberg is a member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. The result is also art that has been lauded across the continent. His paintings are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art and the American Bicentennial Gallery, among others.
